Target Audience

We created a questionnaire, comprising of paper based which we distributed around families and friends and one created on www.surveymonkey.com which we posted online for people to fill in. The reason for this was to decide what our target audience was, and as such what sort of a tone the opening to the film we are making should have.

With the majority of 16-24 year olds preferring action and suspense based thrillers shown in multiplex's, we saw this is a perfect opportunity to cater towards this audience as it fits the description of out film perfectly. The lack of a budget can be made up for, due to the fact that suspense can be created easily without a lot of money. We likened our films atmosphere to ones such as Kidulthood, and a mixture of Duel and Top Boy (taking the pursuit idea from Dual and mixing it with the urban environment of top boy). People generally seemed to like this idea as it is what they had enjoyed before. Some said however that things such as killing scenes, and drug deals that are shown in films of the sort can be made to look corny and so we should avoid that at all costs.

With the rating system of 1-5, 1 being that the person hasnt seen the film and 5 being that the film was excellent. On average, people of the age group 16-24 preferred the film Dark Knight Rises and of those who had seen it, Se7en. This is perfect as the film we wish to produce resembles these films in terms of atmosphere, or storyline. From this we can see that we should adhear to these types of films as they fit with our target audience perfectly. Since some people hadn't seen Se7en however we want to give the film a more modern tone and a more mainstream feel, marketing it as more of a Kidulthood type film than No Country For Old Men etc.
